Smartwatches have brought about a technological revolution. Thanks to these devices we can have everything linked from our smartphone on our wrist and thus facilitate our routine. There are smartwatch applications that are very helpful, such as Hand Wash.
The importance of hand hygiene emerged in the 19th century when Dr Semmelweis gave priority to this gesture in order to avoid infection by doctors to patients. More than 170 years have passed and this simple gesture is very important in the face of the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic.
In these times, Samsung has developed a handwashing application called Hand Wash. This is in Spanish and its objective is to give reminders about when and how to clean your hands.
Hygiene control by the clock
The purpose of Hand Wash is to remind the user from time to time that they should wash their hands for at least twenty seconds. One thing to note is that the application is capable of monitoring washing time and detecting how we do it.
Count the seconds we spend washing our hands, including the times to turn the tap on and off and to apply the soap. The elapsed time and total cleanings for the day are displayed on the watch face.
Thanks to Hand Wash we can set targets to wash a certain number of times and the application will adjust the washing time automatically.
The only “defect” that we can find is that it is only available for Samsung devices, therefore if we want to have it on our smartwatch we have to visit the Samsung application store.
Hygiene comes first
As we have previously said, hand-cleaning is the simplest and most effective way that we all have to avoid the spread of infections through contact. There are publications that affirm that hygiene is of great help to prevent infections that link health care.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the wash should be 15 seconds plus the necessary time for drying soap. Later hydroalcoholic gels can be used once the hands are dry.
